Training Summary: Individuals who successfully complete this training will receive the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) “Pilot/Escort Driver Certification”. Training is approximately 9 to 10 hours in length. The course includes and covers such topics as: Overview of the pilot car industry, Utah and other State standards for the Pilot/Escort Driver, Vehicle & Safety Equipment, Pre-Trip Planning and Coordination, Permits, Automobile and Liability Insurance, recommended safety & other equipment, communication, flagging specific to the movement of oversize loads, following and preceding distances, maneuvering techniques, Route Survey and other discussions.
Course Pre-Requisites: Individuals must be 18 years of age and must be able to perform the functions of the job for which they are receiving training. This UDOT Pilot/Escort Driver Certification requires that the applicant meet the minimum UDOT regulations by providing a current valid driver’s license record know as a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), from State of Residence as required by the UDOT Rule R912-9. This MVR report must be obtained within 30 days prior to the course date. This MVR Report must show a valid driver’s license. Applicant may provide the MVR report or USPilotCar is able to obtain the MVR but additional fees will apply. Insurance is not required to be in place prior to receiving a UDOT Pilot/Escort Driver Certification Card but is required prior to providing Pilot/Escort Services. Certification Cards will not be issued without applicant providing and MVR Report. Vehicle Inspections will not be conducted at the time of the class. If a current MVR is not supplied at the day of the course, the Certification Card will be held for 30 days, at which time it may be revoked by UDOT.
Course Fees: The cost of the course is noted on the registration page and varies depending on the registration date versus the course date. Materials will be sent that includes 4 manuals. Payment of all Course Fees is required prior to any course materials being supplied or attending this course unless prior approval from USPilotCar is obtained. Pilot Escort Driver Certification and Flagger Certification issued will be valid for (4) four years from the date of the course and may be renewed for 1 additional 4 year term via the internet or through the mail. Additional fees apply for renewals.
Enrollment: Pre-Registration is required and can be complete by completing the registration forms on this website or by calling the USPilotCar office during normal business hours Monday thru Friday. Registration will not be accepted less than 3 business days prior to the scheduled course date but additional fees will apply between 3 and 5 days prior the course date. USPilotCar reserves the right to cancel any session due to lack of sufficient enrollment.
Registration Process:
- At least 5 days prior to the session start date, applicants must complete the registration. You can accomplish this online with the use of a credit card for the payment. If you do not want to use a credit card for payment and wish to use a Company Check or Money Order, please contact our office. Upon receipt of a completed registration form and the course fee, the course materials and a pre-test for this specific session will be sent to you for your review. The Pre-Test must be completed and provided to the instructor at the beginning of the course. These training materials supplied to you prior to the course, are used to establish a base level of knowledge. This Course will provide information in addition to these student materials. Those applicants registering less than 11 days of the date noted above will be charged an additional fee that varies for sending materials via overnight express delivery (Course Fees vary due to the how the materials are shipped). Canadian residents will be assessed the cost to ship study materials via United Parcel Service and if United Parcel Service is requested, additional fees may apply.
- NOTE: Any person(s) that transfer to a different class location must have prior approval. If a person cannot attend and there is a request to switch an individual to a different person, USPilotCar will allow this with prior approval of 48 hours. Transfers beyond 1 time will result in a $75.00 fee for each transfer. All transfers must be completed no later than 5 business days prior to class.
Testing Process: A test on the content of these Course Materials and the information discussed during the course will be administered. The applicants will be required to pass this examination with a score of/or greater than 80%. If an applicant is not able to pass the examination, one retake may be considered. Refunds will only be allowed should USPilotCar cancel this class due to low enrollment. In case of an emergency, one extension will be allowed to the next closest available class. Applicants may be required to travel to this location without any financial assistance.
